The 135 mile long turnpike spans the state of Massachusetts and runs between Boston and the New York border. The Pike offers numerous amenities along the route, including visitor centers, restaurants, gas stations and rest stops. The MTA also oversees the Metropolitan Highway System, which includes the Boston Extension, which runs for 12 miles between Route 128/I-95 and downtown Boston, and the Sumner-Callahan and Ted Williams Tunnels, which connect to Logan Airport. The MTA also oversees the Central Artery Project, known as the Big Dig.
