IRISH TRAVEL & CULTURE MAGAZINE
FALL/WINTER 2017-18
The City of Lynn, just north of Boston, has a vibrant cultural scene these days, with a new Cultural District in progress, great new downtown restaurants, and a cool mural initiative to brighten up old city buildings.
The cultural buzz is anchored by the refurbished and expanded Lynn Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, which contracted with Ticketmaster to bring over 60 shows to the venue in 2017. In addition to a great sound system and easy access, patrons can enjoy free parking, $4 beers, and affordable ticket prices for the shows.
The schedule has something for everyone – from classic rock and comedy to community dance recitals and family movies.
This Christmas season kicks off with two performances of The Nutcracker on December 2. Then on December 3, Lynn welcomes the Celtic Thunder Symphony Tour. It features (pictured above) the popular quintet of Irish male singers, made popular by their PBS-TV appearances, backed by a live orchestra. They will be singing songs from their newly released album entitled, Inspirational.
On December 21, The Tenors, a Canadian trio of great singers, perform their Christmas Together program of favorite holiday songs. Looking ahead to another favorite holiday - St. Patrick’s Day - the world-renowned Chieftains (pictured right) perform at Lynn Auditorium on March 18. Led by uilleann piper Paddy Moloney and flutist Matt Molloy, the band has toured the world over the past five decades, bringing a brand of virtuosity to Irish music that is unparalleled.
