150 Years Ago
Musician Patrick S. Gilmore, a Galway native who lived in Boston, published his now famous tune, When Johnny Comes Marching Home under the pseudonym Louis Lambert. It debuted at Tremont Temple on Sunday, September 26, 1863.
100 Years Ago
Hibernian Hall on Dudley Street in Roxbury officially opened on October 1, 1913, and quickly became a gathering place for Irish cultural events, political rallies, union m eetings, and other civic and social activities.
50 Years Ago
President John F. Kennedy made his now-famous trip to Ireland on June 26-29, 1963, visiting his ancestral home in New Ross and Dunganstown, County Wexford, as well as making stops in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick.
