This summer you’ll have a chance to enjoy two compelling Irish acts whose work stands above the tradition while remaining true to it.

Legendary fiddler Eileen Ivers is always pushing new boundaries – and that is the case with her new show, Connecting the Roots, a fascinating revue of how Irish music and dance have integrated with various roots music of North America to create one of the richest cross-pollinations of folk music styles in the world. Highlighting music from her new album Beyond the Bog Road, Ivers reveals the Celtic connections to American bluegrass, French Canadian, Cajun and Appalachian traditions.

A nine-time All-Ireland fiddle champion, the Bronx-born fiddle maestro was also the original music star in Riverdance. Connecting the Roots is a brilliant exploration of how traditional music and dance meld together in the New World to create new genres that are constantly evolving.

Joining Ivers as the special guest opener is the Screaming Orphans. The all-sister band from Bundoran, Co. Donegal, is one of the most sought after Celtic bands with a powerful, award-winning sound combining their own original melodic old-school pop songs with their unique take on traditional Irish music. The band is renowned for their four-part harmony, which has led to many collaborations on recordings with artists such as Martin Furey, Afro Celt Sound System, Peter Gabriel and Joni Mitchell.
