Danú, one of Ireland’s most cherished Irish folk bands over the past two decades, is coming to the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Based in the city of Waterford, the talented septet has successfully brought Celtic music back to its earthy, traditional roots while keeping a modern, youthful sensibility. The band has released ten records since forming in 1995, and has been voted "Best Overall Traditional Act" by Dublin‘s magazine Irish Music, as well as getting voted "Best Traditional Group" twice in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Danú is comprised of founding members Benny McCarthy (accordion), Dónal Clancy (guitar) and Donnchadh Gough (bodhran, uillean pipes), as well as Nell NíChróinín (vocals), Tom Doorley (flute), Oisín McAuley (fiddle) and Éamon Doorley (bouzouki).
In 2015, Danú released Buan, a rousing collection of reels, jigs and ballads that was awarded a swooning 4 star review in The Irish Times. Danú welcomed star vocalist Nell Ní Chróinín into the fold in 2016 marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter and a new album just released in 2018 entitled Ten Thousand Miles.
